British Airways delay compensation: how to claim
British Airways is a UK airline, so UK261 covers its flights from UK airports and into the UK.
Last checked 27 October 2026. General information, not legal advice.
How to do it
- Under UK rules, if you arrive more than three hours late you can claim £220 (under 1,500 km), £350 (1,500 to 3,500 km), or £260 or £520 (over 3,500 km, depending on how late you arrive) per passenger.
- Claim directly from the airline first, in writing. It's free and you don't need a claims company.
If British Airways says no
- British Airways, and BA CityFlyer, belong to CEDR (the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution).
- You can go to the scheme if the airline rejects your claim, or hasn't replied within eight weeks of your written complaint. You must apply within 12 months of the airline's final response. It's free.
