TDS deposit dispute: how it works
The TDS is one of the three government-approved deposit protection schemes in England and Wales.
Last checked 27 October 2026. General information, not legal advice.
How to do it
- Try to agree the deposit split with your landlord or agent first, and keep a record of trying.
- If you can't agree, you can ask the TDS to resolve it within three months of the tenancy ending.
If Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS) says no
- The dispute resolution service is free, and you and the landlord both have to agree to use it. The decision is final.
